Manorama Mazhavil Rebrand
Mazhavil Manorama is part of Malayala Manorama – one of the largest and oldest media houses in India. It’s a female biased general entertainment TV channel, which also has print, radio and digital strands.
They differentiate themselves with their innovative content mix and cutting edge technology since their launch in 2011.
As part of a recent move to build on their reputation they approached RedBee Creative to come up with a vibrant, new identity for the brand as well as an update on their sonic branding. The music had to be open and inviting, culturally valid for the locale but flexible enough not to go out of date too quickly.
Unlike some of the international brands that we work on – Mazhavil were not afraid to incorporate some ethnic instrumentation for the music. After some extensive research on different instrumentation local to Kerala, we came up with something that would fit on all six of the indents created. We achieved this by creating two versions – one with and one without the percussion.
We were also keen to keep a human voice element (which comes in at the end) in there which would tie the music back to the previous branding.
As is usual with music branding jobs – we tried a wider variety of styles, before honing in on a particular one which worked to picture and for the client’s tastes.
RedBee were very helpful in guiding us through this process – based on a lot of experience in the Indian market.
