Wake up everyone : Tesco Mobile Oblivious
You are Oblivious. “Every day we’re oblivious to great things around us, that’s why we’re waking up the nation from the slumber of ordinary mobile service.” This was the big motto for an interesting campaign launched by Tesco Mobile.
Tesco Mobile has been working towards brand credibility in the past few years, aiming to connect to a younger audience and improve their experience with the mobile network. They installed a colourful billboard ad in the heart of Croydon, however this ad had something else to it. It turned out this ad came to life and surprised pedestrians, from animal noises, to beatboxing and rapping, you could certainly be stunned if you were walking by. For this campaign, Tesco Mobile teamed up with the Sidemen, a “group of YouTube personalities who rose to prominence through their video game commentaries posted on the video sharing site.”
You can imagine the excitement this ad generated for YouTubers, who are very familiar with the Sidemen’s online presence. We think this is a really smart strategy, as it not only attracted the attention of ones who experienced it in person but it also got a wide online audience responding so enthusiastically to an advert, reaching over 1 Million views on YouTube.
