I know that you might think we couldn’t possibly fit any more creative studios in East London, but it seems there is still room for experienced freelancers that set up on their own.  Most recently is Pryce Duncalf’s animation and VFX studio called Munk – he’s been in the industry for 13 years freelancing in animating commercials, visual effects, content, promos and channel identity with over 20 awards to his name.

By way of example of what the Munk team have been up to  – here is a montage of incredibly sweet re-working of the Discovery science logo for  new the Discovery Science you tube channel.  Each character reflects a different genre of programming and I really like the way that Discovery have allowed them to mess around with the character of the ident so liberally – giving it/them a really human feel to the brand.

They have also been working on called the comedy /horror proof of concept film Hellyfish – collaborating with Gold Leaf in Los Angeles.  You may or may not be surprised to hear that its about  radioactive mutant killer jellyfish.  The story is inspired by the potential confluence of two real-life events on Tybee Island, GA – the unexplained rise in numbers of jellyfish and the missing H-bomb that has been resting in the coastal waters since 1958.

Munk worked on animating the mutant killer jellyfish.  I’ve posted the trailer above, however if you need an extra hit of coelenterate fun you can watch the full length 12 min Hellyfish movie by clicking here and even more fun with the full VFX breakdown below:

There’s lots more on the Munk Website, and I’ve no doubt we’ll be hearing  a lot more from these guys soon…
