Finger Industries – Lila & The Giants Animation Series
It always warms my cockles when we discover a new studio producing high quality work – and even more so when that studio is outside London’s ring of fire (the M25 to you and me)
We were recently approached by Sheffield based Finger Industries – who’ve been around for 13 years and have various D&AD and Cannes Lions to their name. In the spirit of true independence they have self initiated a children’s series for 3-6 year olds called Lila and the Giants.
I think it’s gorgeous looking and I particularly like the characterisation of the Giants themselves. The series is about exploring the natural world and folklore through the eyes of a very likeable girl and her extraordinary best friends.
I spoke to Carrie Fletcher from the studio who told me that they have written two full episodes and are in the process of securing funding to produce it “for real”. It seems like there are lots of different options for releasing it between terrestrial, satellite and more recently online broadcasters like Netflix and Amazon – personally I can’t wait to see more…
As a bonus I have also inclued another of their self initiated projects called: ‘The glorious remains of Banapal The Third’
It’s an animated loop which is set underwater transporting you into a world a bit like a lost Atlantis – where senses are heightened and perceptions disorientated…
Done purely to show off animation skills – and why not? I would gladly have this an an animated screen saver – it takes me to a calm place…
